in class essay 3

I haven’t found a topic I really like that much, but as of now it would be outsourcing. Outsourcing is when big companies get move their factories to another country to exploit their cheap labor, which in turn takes jobs away from people in the U.S. I have just heard that most of outsourcing is digital. I had never heard of digital outsourcing until yesterday. Mr. Slabaug told me about and said it would be a good subject to research. People say outsourcing is a good thing for the poorer countries that the companies move to because it gives them jobs, but it also makes them dependant on that job and that company. This makes it easy for the company to exploit the country and its people. If we could eliminate outsourcing it would be a good move to lower unemployment rates. This alone is good reason to try to stop companies from outsourcing. The reasons companies do this is because not only do have to pay American workers more, you also have to give them benefits like health insurance, vacation time, and maternity leave. The companies can’t really be blamed for wanting to outsource. They are just trying to make the most money they can just like everybody else. The government is the only thing that can stop outsourcing. I think they should put high tariffs on products that are made by companies who out source. A tariff on products made by companies that outsource would force them to either raise their price and lose some customers or leave the price the same and lose some of their profit margin. This would counter act the cheaper labor, making it equal to just keeping business in the U.S. The only way we can stop companies from outsourcing is to make so it cost too much to take advantage of cheaper labor in the long run.

Common Sense

Common, by Tomas Paine, sense uses mostly logic to make its arguments. It has good reasoning like why is a small island 2,000 miles away ruling an entire continent. The great rebuttal it also it makes is the fact that Britain was said to be the mother country, but then why would a mother treat her children so badly. In that time it was unreasonable for Britain to try governing the colonies because it would take a year for a colonist to make a petition and receive word on what was decided. Another argument is that the colonies aren’t just made of British immigrants. The colonists were from all over Europe. What gave Britain the rights to the colonies any more than the other European Countries? The colonists left Britain to get away form its persecutive rule. Now, why did they think they were allowed to rule people that left their country? Its like saying a country has the right to rule refugees that flee the country. The British also ruled the colonies for their benefit not for the country as whole, but for one small section of the country. The thing I thought was the most interesting is how the colonies were the best place to make ships, and would have been a large factor as to why Britain had such a good navy. Why would you treat your source of Navy strength as nothing more than slaves to exploit?

Spring Break

My spring break began with a two and a half hour drive home to Goshen, IN. The first night home I went to see 10,000 B.C. with my roommate, Brady. On Saturday I went to a party with Brady’s friends from high school I met some cool people that I liked, and some guys that were idiots to put it politely. On Sunday I stayed home and ate with my family and watched TV with my mom. Monday my friend, John, came over to hangout. We talked about getting tattoos this summer. After he had to leave to pick up his brother from school, I designed mine. I think it’s pretty good, but I want to see what a tattoo artist can do with it to make it better. Tuesday I bought the movie Hit Man Blood Money. It was pretty good. Wednesday I didn’t do squat. Thursday I hung out with Jerry, Austin, and Josh. We went to Steak ‘n’ Shake and harassed a waitress we knew there for about an hour, and then went cruising. Friday Austin, Matt and I went to Wings etc. and ate and watched the Big 10 tournament. Saturday my mom threw me a big birthday bash because I wouldn’t be home for my birthday. It was awesome. All my old friends came. Sunday I went to church, ate lunch with my family, and drove home listening to the old NOW cds.
